LETTERS

TO MOTHER EARTH

What literature can do to create awareness?

Can literature help us speak out about climate injustice? Climate fiction (cli-fi) is a popular literary genre. Therefore we bring together authors worldwide who speak out about the climate crisis in their literary work. While the climate crisis is still often viewed from a Western perspective as a problem for the next generation, other parts of the world are already suffering the consequences of human-induced climate change.

The urgency of this issue is close to the hearts of the participating authors.

They explore the limits of their language to express this injustice in literary forms.

Literature visualizes these problems and helps us empathize.

This project is a perfect opportunity to show their concern, engage in a prestige project and boost their image on an international stage.

Call on storytellers

The IPCC report has led to the Paris Agreement and acts as a rock in the surf against all climate sceptics and misinformation. But after thirty years of IPCC reporting, we are still on track for catastrophic climate change. This way of communicating is not enough.
You don't need facts to influence behaviour. You just need a good story. Most scientists are not storytellers. That's why I call on writers—the experts in storytelling—to make this information tangible by writing a letter to Mother Earth.
Join us! Nourish and inspire. Reach as many people as possible. If we don't really feel the climate crisis, we won't act fast enough. Then we will soon be on an unliveable earth with all our knowledge.

Language is the greatest binding with the future
